Experienced freelancers are able to confront many, if not all, challenges they come across in their daily operations. While a few problems are easy to solve, others such as economic crisis and inflation are beyond any freelancer’s power. Many users of freelance job sites can confirm that jobs are usually few, and the rates are unreasonably low, during economic recession.

As a result,some employers decide to do some of the work they normally outsource personally. Others grab the opportunity to get their jobs done for almost half the rates they usually pay when the economy is good. Since economic challenges will still come, freelancers must find several ways to survive during these dry days.

A freelance provider must think widely so as to find other possible businesses that he or she can do when freelance jobs are hard to find. A number of these things include the following:

a. Join more than one freelancing job sites – A big mistake that most worldwide freelancers make is to concentrate on being a member of only one freelance job site. I think the best thing to do is to choose at least two big job sites. This will allow you to try your luck in each site when it becomes so difficult to find a job.

b. Join websites that allow you to sell articles – Some of them sell the articles and share the earnings with you. Others allow publishing of articles but you both share the ADsense earnings. Even if this earning method is slow, it can be a great investment plan for the future.

c. Create small projects that pay quickly – The only great site I know in this regard is Fiverr. Wait, there is another site i found called SEO Clerks. You simply identify small activities you can do for others at the rate of $5 on Fiverr. Seo Clerks allows you to set your rate, and does not deduct a lot of money from your earnings. Projects do not even have to be related to freelancing. This makes both sites unique and helpful.

d. Participate in certain forums for cash rewards – The best site I know of is called My Lot. There are others such as forum focus, post on my forum, forum advantage. Even so My Lot is busier and great. You can check if your country members can be paid by paypal.

e. Start a blog and promote affiliate items during your free time.

f. Concentrate on simple jobs that you often ignore – Some of them include writing and posting blog and forum comments, typing captchas, clicking ads, data entry and writing reviews, especially via ReviewMe.

2. Sharpen your entrepreneurial Skills
The best time to test your entrepreneurial skills is during the hard freelancing days. You do not even have to start a business right away. During these days you have a lot of free time. You can step outside the house for a few hours just to survey your local marketplace.

This will not only enhance your business skills but also your social skills as you will talk to people. Since the dry days cause a lot of stress, you can alleviate them by going out specifically to research something important. If you discover a good business, you can start planning how to launch it when your financial status improves.

3. Do what you love doing
Freelance work takes most of your free time to an extent that you leave no time to exploit your talents. If you have some unique skills and talents, such as baking, sewing, interior designing, woodworking and gardening, among others, you can find a way to make money out of them.

4. Go back to class
An idle mind is a devil’s workshop. As a result, a freelancer should occupy their mind with positive thoughts and activities. When the freelance tasks are few, one is likely to feel bored, angry and stressed out.

Instead of this, a freelance provider can evaluate his or her weak areas in regard to the chosen field of freelancing. Then he or she can find a local or an online class and focus on enhancing those weak points.

Even learning new skills that would enable one to add one more area of freelancing is a prudent thing to do.
