Anonymous web surfing is looking through your favorite web pages while masking your true internet protocol (IP) address. Most people surf anonymously to protect their private information which could easily be accessed by identity thieves and other bad people.

How can this happen?

When surfing the internet, your computer contacts the web pages you want using your IP address. The IP contains fairly private information such as your geographical location, your web browser and the version of your computer’s Operating System.

According to the providers of proxy and VPN (Virtual Private Network) services, the details disclosed by your Internet Protocol address can be used to track your online activities.

This information is captured and stored by the websites you visit. A proxy or VPN software creates a wall between you, the user, and the website that you are visiting. Instead of sharing the information contained in your true IP address directly, proxies and VPNs use fake IPs to contact various web servers.

In other words they encrypt your data in way that makes it unreadable and useless. Since you and I cannot change the way the internet functions, we should do anonymous web surfing to protect our private information. There are also other reasons why people use anonymous software to hide their internet activities.
The most popular reasons include the following:

To unblock any site from anywhere on earth-
When you travel the world you will discover that most countries have strict rules in regard to internet access. The sites that you can freely access in the US could be inaccessible and blocked in a country like China, for instance. The only known way to log on Hulu, Pandora, and other exciting sites is through the best VPN or proxy Services.
To unban yourself on a site you like
Most forums and sites that allow you to make money online will close or suspend your account abruptly. If you love these sites a lot you can get in using a fake ip address.
To bypass blocked firewalls and servers at schools or workplaces
Some organizations have strict measures on what their workers may or may not access using the office internet connection. Some workers use proxies to cover their tracks when they surf the net at the work place. The same case applies to the students.
To unlock sites that may be prohibited in a foreign country
In some countries, certain websites are blocked for ethical or political reasons. If you wish to go against this you could use a proxy or a VPN service. You may also surf anonymously if you want to access something private using a shared home or public computer. There are both free and paid proxy and VPN services.

I personally use a paid service called Hide My Ass. If you want to surf privately like most people, you have to pick the best software on the internet.
